A core requirement of the NHSX teams Acceleration Programme is to deliver an integrated care service, and the GP Contract requires that by 2022/23 Lloyd George notes will be digitised, and patients will have access to their records digitally.

Backscan

At Microtech we provide a bespoke health record digitisation service across the UK, known as Backscanning. This back scanning process includes scanning Lloyd George records and uploading them to electronic document or patient record systems.

The NHS Long Term Plan confirms that every patient will have the right to be offered digital-first primary care. With an ever-evolving NHS working in partnership with social and voluntary sectors, the need for back scanning to produce a fully paperless history for patients is now increasingly important.

Scanning legacy records (LG wallets) instantly releases floor space, ensures records are safe from flood or fire damage and puts the whole patient history in one place, accessible when needed and without delay.

If your paper records have already been scanned and are in a digital format, perhaps stored on hard-drives or in a remote silo, our BackScan import solution can help.
BackScan is the repatriation of the scanned record into the patient electronic record as an electronic (TIFF / PDF) copy.  The BackScan service from Microtech seamlessly collects the scanned file and imports it into the document folder of the patient record. Fully automated and remotely operated, BackScan can be undertaken in or out of service with no impact on bandwidth or time-critical processes.

Whether you have a few files to scan, or a large volume of historic documents that need to be archived on a regular basis, we have a solution for every project.

We offer comprehensive real-time document/records scanning/back scanning services which incorporate indexing, archiving and data capturing technology. File formats supported include Tiff and PDF and follow British Standards BIP0008 (the legal test of admissibility and the evidential weight of electronically stored information).  

The import process has zero impact on staff engaged in using their normal electronic document management service. Our import tool can safely run during working hours, and we will monitor the whole process remotely to resolve any issues should they arise.
We offer our clients a range of secure external document storage, with a range of box or file retrieval options, to ensure every scanned record is imported back into the correct patient record.

A confidential document destruction service is also available to clients via a confidential shredding plant with CCTV surveillance, intruder alarms and access control.

NHS Birmingham and Solihull CCG: “Paper records are over 70 years old in a state of deterioration, therefore becoming illegible, coupled with the fact the information they hold is vital and paramount for safe medical practice. The security and accuracy of these records is vital and needs to be preserved.”

At Microtech Health we are actively working with CCG’s & partners across healthcare organisations to convert paper records into electronic readable data and directly uploading the digitised version into the GP electronic record system.
